Pearle celebrates its 25th anniversary in Prague and endorses statement on culture and the arts
(Prague/Brussels 28 November 2015) ? Pearle* - Live Performance Europe celebrated its 25th anniversary at its 50th General Assembly meeting held from 27 to 28 November 2015 in Prague.
Pearle* members from across Europe came together to discuss topics such as the education and training of artists, health and safety in a cross-border context, copyrights and the management of live performance organisations. They were joined by the Pearle* founding members at the celebration evening event on 27 November.
Remembering the recent attacks in Paris, Rolf Bolwin, managing Director of Deutscher B?hnenverein and president of Pearle* said: ?It is more important than ever to defend and to spread the core values of culture and the arts ? we cannot allow them to be reduced to mere economic figures.?
G?za Kov?cs, President of AHO, the Association of Hungarian Orchestras and vice-president of Pearle* added: ?Our societies can only thrive if the arts have strong support from European governments and the European Union.?
In the course of the meeting, Pearle* members endorsed a statement on culture and the arts. The aim is to raise awareness for culture and the arts in the Member States as well as at EU level and ensure that they become more prominent in the overall goals and priorities of the Union.
The conference was hosted by the Association of Professional Theatres in the Czech Republic (APD ?R) and the Association of Czech Symphony Orchestras and Choirs (ASOPS).
Pearle* was founded in Amsterdam in 1991 and today represents through its members the interests of more than 7000 theatres, theatre production companies, orchestras and music ensembles, opera houses, ballet and dance companies, festivals, producers, comedy, vari?t?, circus and other organisations.
