Balancing work and private and family life is a real challenge in the live performance sector, where the sectoral features are: work patterns encompassing performances in the evening and over the weekend, high mobility (touring), reluctance to take a brake in once career because of the danger to loose once ability to conduct his/her profession (e.g. dancers, musicians).

Solutions are often best found at company level where one can take into considerations the personsí career development whilst taking into consideration his/her private or family situation. Some of the issues may also be addresed at sectoral level (e.g. in case of touring: people have compensatory rest).

The provisions of care-facilities need to be further developed in the Member States, both in urban and rural areas where there is a shortage. Moreover there is a great lack of provisions available for people working in the performing arts at night or over the weekend.
