Open letter from Pearle and FIM to the Commission on travelling with music instruments

Professional musicians encounter critical difficulties when travelling with their instruments by plane. Restrictions applying to the carrying of instruments on planes have become a serious hindrance to the mobility of artists. Therefore, Pearle* and FIM addressed this issue together in an open letter to the Commission.
The two main categories of complaints concern the pricing and handling of the instruments, mostly due to incoherent and ill-adapted airline policies. Moreover, there is no consistent industry-wide policy that applies to all airline companies.
Pearle* and FIM believe that a revision of the regulation on air passenger rights is the appropriate framework for the inclusion of provisions that take proper account of problems encountered by musicians travelling on planes for professional purposes.
